Ben prima di allora ci saranno due importanti presentazioni pubbliche di Tintinnabulation - un inedito progetto dove si intrecciano musica, ecologia, tutela del mondo animale, creazione artistica e interazione sociale - cui tiene particolarmente Marcus Vergette, allevatore, scultore e valente contrabbassista spesso presente nelle formazioni di Mike Westbrook degli anni più recenti, in particolare nella Uncommon Orchestra, in Paintbox Jane, nella versione in quartetto di Love and Infatuation e in quella 3+2 del celebre Trio. I primi appuntamenti sono a Londra (Barbican) il 12 marzo e a Dartington Trust (Great Hall) il 23, in coincidenza con la pubblicazione dell'album prodotto da Nonclassical, ma altri ne seguiranno nel corso dell'estate.
At the centre of Tintinnabulation are Vergette’s Time and Tide bells: handmade instruments which create sound with the rising sea levels. One of the bells is ringing at any given time of day as the tide wraps around our coast, retreats and returns again. There are eight bells currently scattered across the UK’s coasts, each existing as a democratic artwork owned by the local community. Sounds from these bells are collaged with field recordings from the coast and fragments of instrumental improvisation, including Vergette himself on double bass. The result is a collection of dark and dramatic soundscapes, capturing the tumultuous nature of our waters.
