Molto c'è da scoprire e apprendere nel racconto autobiografico che dà di sé Derek Shulman, Giant Steps (Jawbone Press, 2025), aiutato da Jon Wiederhorn a ripercorrere in diverse fasi (Finding My Feet, Up And Running, Finding A New Path) una lunga e fruttuosa carriera dapprima come creatore/interprete in prima persona - in Simon Dupree and the Big Sound e Gentle Giant, naturalmente - e successivamente come propiziatore di progetti e fortune musicali altrui, mantenendo un registro solo a tratti autocompiacente, spesso invece autocosciente e misuratamente sentimentale.
