Si è molto temuto per le sorti del prodigioso direttore d'orchestra israeliano Ilan Volkov alla notizia del suo arresto due giorni fa a Re’im al confine tra Israele e Gaza nel corso di un'iniziativa di protesta, collegata alle azioni della Sumud Flotilla, contro il genocidio dei gazawi ordito dal governo di Netanyahu. A rassicurare tutti è stato egli stesso, via social, dopo esser stato rilasciato e aver ripreso l'azione dimostrativa assieme ai compagni: "Thanks everyone for your messages, all is well. We were 4 or 5 people that got arrested, we were released after less then an hour and joined the rest of the demonstrators who managed to reach the border to Gaza."
Poche sere fa a Londra, al termine di un trionfale concerto con musiche di Gabrieli, Stravinsky e Brahms presentate con la Scottish Symphony Orchestra nell'ambito dell'annuale Proms alla Royal Albert Hall, davanti ai cinquemila presenti in sala Volkov ha rivolto un accorato appello - escluso però dalla diretta della BBC - alla presa di coscienza e alla mobilitazione generale per atti concreti, anche minuscoli, in favore della cessazione degli orrori in Medio Oriente: "Thank you all for sharing this amazing music together. It's a real privilege to be here every year with my friends the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In my heart there is great pain now, every day for months. I come from Israel and live there. I love it, it's my home but what's happening is atrocious and horrific in a scale that's unimaginable. I know that many of us feel completely helpless in front of it. Innocent Palestinians being killed in thousands, displaced again and again, without hospitals and schools, not knowing when's the next meal. Israeli hostages are kept in terrible conditions for almost two years and political prisoners are languishing in Israeli jails. Israelis-Jews and Palestinians won't be able to stop this alone. I ask you, I beg you all to do whatever is in your power to stop this madness. Every little action counts while governments hesitate and wait. We cannot let this go on any longer, every moment that passes puts the safety of millions in risk. Thank you."
